MERTHYR CYCLING CLUB

About us

In 2012 we are celebrating our 25th year! This may seem a long time to some however we are relatively "new kids on the block" to some of the more traditional Welsh clubs, many who have celebrated their 75th anniversary. The club was formed by many Merthyr cyclists who were members of the Hirwaun Wheelers Club, as more and more Merthyr cyclists joined it became apparent that there was support for a club of our own. The club was founded in September 1987 by Gwyn Evans (Club President) other founder members were Robert Philips, Huw Davies, Steve Walsh, Steve Baker, David Tasker, Steven Kinnear, Adrian McDonald and David Jones.
During the last 25 years the club has involved itself with all aspects of cycling and has promoted, Racing, Track, Cyclecross, Charity and Funride events however the club greatest success has been at "Time Trialling" winning Welsh Championships on a regular basis,
The club has always enjoyed a strong membership and looks forward to the new challenges the future will bring.
The headquarters for the club is based in the "Cefn Coed Rugby Club" and this venue is often a base for our events, meetings and social gatherings. We have always been a friendly group of cyclists and we offer a warm welcome to anyone interested in joining in with our activities which vary from leisure rides to hard racing! Currently membership fees are £5 p.a. for social cyclists and £20 for racing cyclists, please contact the Sec/treasurer for full details.
